Sold Secure


Sold Secure is dedicated to reducing the risk of crime by the assessment of security products. Established in 1992 by Northumbria and Essex Police with the help and backing of the Home Office. Sold Secure is now owned and administered by the Master Locksmiths Association (a not for profit trade association) and works from purpose built laboratories in Rugby.

Sold Secure – the test house of choice for security products

Sold Secure is dedicated to reducing the risk of crime by the assessment of security products through manual attack testing. Manufacturers and suppliers can apply to have products approved by Sold Secure. Products which have been satisfactorily assessed may bear the coveted Sold Secure Approved quality mark.

Backed by the home office, Sold Secure was established in 1992 by Northumbria & Essex Police combining two initiatives; Partnership Against Car Theft (PACT) and Sold Secure. Sold Secure is now administered by the Master Locksmith Association in a purpose-built test facility at the MLA’s Head Office in Rugby, Warwickshire.

Sold Secure Grading Levels

At Sold Secure we test multiple specifications using one of our four levels of theft resistance. These specifications vary in the type of attack, tools used, and time spent during the attack.

Please note, not all specifications have all four levels. Find out more below:

Sold Secure Bronze

Offering theft resistance against a basic tool list (aimed at preventing opportunist crime)

Sold Secure Silver

Offering theft resistance against an enhanced tool list (aimed at preventing more determined attacked)

Sold Secure Gold

Offering theft resistance against a dedicated tool list (aimed at preventing dedicated attacks)

Sold Secure Diamond - Dura Secure rating

The Highest level of theft resistance. This acknowledges that the design is aimed at preventing the most destructive attacks from the use of specalist tools (a tool list & further information can be obtained from Sold Secure).

Sold Secure approved products may bear the Sold Secure quality mark. Information on approved products is circulated to Crime Prevention Officers, Insurance Companies, Media, Home Office, the public as well as being made freely available to those who require it.
